A covert counter-terrorist unit called Black Cell led by Gabriel Shear wants the money to help finance their war against international terrorism, but it's all locked away. Gabriel brings in convicted hacker Stanley Jobson to help him.
In this futuristic technology spy movie, John Travolta plays Gabriel Shear, a man who is desperately trying to access information that is locked inside a complicated computer system that contains mountains of government secrets - and money. He hires Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman), a desperate computer expert, to help him hack into the system.
In an interview, John Travolta commented on how great the opening scene of this movie is. What he failed to mention was how bad the rest of it is! After the first 5 minutes, this movie does nothing but continually find ways to make you dumber.<br/><br/> The Story: A villainous patriot (John Travolta) thinks of something no one else has- a bank robbery. But because the bank has a computer in it, he needs to get the world&#39;s second best computer hacker (Hugh Jackman) to turn it on. Before the end credits roll, we get to see Halle Berry (and much more of her than usual), FBI agents, and even a porn queen. No wonder this movie was called Swordfish! Huh?
If it was only a formulaic piece of nonsense, then it would be okay; I&#39;d see it and that would be that. But the film&#39;s ending gives away the ending to The Maltese Falcon, which I had rented and was looking forward to seeing the next day! It&#39;s not even an homage. John Travolta says, &quot;Have you ever seen the Maltese Falcon? Well, it ends with. . .&quot; Zero stars for ruining what should have been a great cinematic experience.
Exhibits rank incompetence on every level.
